African Bamboo, a startup from Ethiopia, is making a breakthrough in the construction materials industry by leveraging the country’s abundant bamboo resources to produce high-performance, eco-friendly materials. As a sustainable alternative to traditional materials like steel, concrete, and plastic, African Bamboo’s products align with modern green building trends.
Throughout its development, African Bamboo has received support from organizations such as USAID, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and GIZ to build an integrated supply chain for bamboo-based products. Additionally, the company was awarded the Green Deal Seal of Excellence by the European Commission, recognizing innovative SMEs and startups evaluated successfully under the May call of the EIC Accelerator.
By participating in the startup exhibition space at the P4G Vietnam Summit 2025, African Bamboo had the opportunity to present its technological solution to a wide range of domestic and international organizations. The event, co-organized by the National Startup Support Center (NSSC), facilitated valuable connections that helped the startup engage with potential investors, expand international partnerships, and strengthen its position within the global green startup ecosystem.
With Ethiopia home to nearly 70% of Africa’s bamboo resources, African Bamboo holds strong growth potential in a market projected to grow at 4.5% annually through 2030. The company has achieved notable milestones, including $1.6 million in revenue in 2024, with a projected 300% growth by 2026, and a $94 million sales agreement with SECA.
