AirX Carbon: Transforming Agricultural Waste into Carbon-Negative Bioplastics

TOP 2 TECHFEST Vietnam’s National Innovation Technopreneur Contest 2023 organised by National Startup Support Center of Vietnam (NSSC) and Startup Vietnam Foundation (SVF)

AirX Carbon, established in 2015, is pioneering the development of carbon-negative materials by transforming agricultural by-products—such as coffee grounds, rice husks, and coconut husks—into sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics.

The company’s proprietary technology converts agricultural waste into bio-based polymers, which are then pelletized using eco-friendly manufacturing techniques to create carbon-negative biomaterials. AirX Carbon offers two types of bioplastics: one designed for multiple applications—including shoe soles, electronic devices, household appliances, and furniture—that can be recycled after their lifecycle ends, and another that biodegrades more rapidly, often within two years under suitable conditions, thereby reducing environmental impact.

AirX Carbon’s dedication to innovation and sustainability has been recognized through several accolades. It was honored among TOP 2 TECHFEST Vietnam’s National Technopreneur Contest 2023. In the same year, the company secured investment prizes totaling $50,000 from Touchstone Partners and East Ventures after winning the Net Zero Challenge, a climate innovation competition in Vietnam. Additionally, AirX Carbon was awarded a $350,000 grant from P4G to scale its NetZero Pallet, a sustainable packaging alternative made from agricultural and forestry waste. The company has also established a production facility in Long An Province with a capacity of 100 tons per month and plans to increase this to 500 tons per month by 2025 to meet growing demand.
