Anega Energies Manufacturing (AEM) is a social enterprise based in Ethiopia, pioneering the development and deployment of clean cooking solutions for local communities. In partnership with Plan International Ethiopia under the P4G initiative, AEM is reshaping how energy is accessed in rural areas, where households often rely on traditional, polluting cooking methods.
AEM’s solution is a fully integrated ecosystem that includes:
The Quayton stove – designed for high combustion efficiency and minimal smoke emission
Fuel pellets made from agricultural waste – a clean, affordable, and locally available energy source
A post-use biochar buy-back mechanism – turning collected biochar into fertilizer and water filtration material
This model achieves up to 95% reduction in indoor smoke, saves 65% of fuel consumption, and significantly cuts CO₂ emissions. Beyond environmental and health impacts, AEM also prioritizes gender equality in clean energy, with 35% of leadership and 40% of staff being women – a notable achievement in rural Africa’s energy landscape.
At the P4G Summit Vietnam 2025, Anega Energies Manufacturing (AEM) presented its integrated clean cooking model developed in partnership with Plan International Ethiopia, with the support of the National Startup Support Center (NSSC). The model gained strong interest from development partners and green technology investors for its innovative use of agricultural waste and circular biochar recycling. With the ability to improve air quality and save fuel, while empowering women and improving community health, AEM’s solution demonstrates a practical, scalable pathway for clean energy access in low-income regions—contributing meaningfully to multiple Sustainable Development Goals.
With a practical, replicable design and cost-effective implementation, Anega Energies Manufacturing’s solution not only improves health and living conditions but also generates income opportunities, contributing to the local economy. It is a scalable innovation model aligned with global goals for sustainable energy, public health, and gender equity.
