KardiaNuts Develops Organic Cashew Value Chain in Vichada

KardiaNuts was founded in 2018 by Juan Pablo Muriel with the goal of promoting sustainable rural development in Vichada, one of the poorest regions in Colombia. The project focuses on building an organic cashew value chain, combined with a regenerative agroforestry model aimed at restoring soil health, increasing biodiversity, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

KardiaNuts has implemented a range of initiatives to develop a regenerative agricultural ecosystem in Vichada. By partnering with over 350 smallholder farmers, the company has helped them integrate into the organic cashew value chain, increasing their income and improving livelihoods. At the same time, KardiaNuts has invested in building a model farm and a local cashew processing facility, contributing to job creation and serving as a model for green agriculture. In parallel, the company applies biochar technology to produce organic fertilizer, enhancing soil fertility and crop productivity. Notably, KardiaNuts also conducts hands-on training programs for farmers on sustainable farming practices, encouraging the adoption of climate-smart, environmentally friendly agroforestry techniques.

Participating in the P4G Vietnam Summit 2025, co-organized by the National Startup Support Center (NSSC), brought KardiaNuts valuable opportunities to expand its scale and impact. Through the startup exhibition area, the company not only showcased its regenerative agriculture model and organic cashew value chain to international stakeholders but also established promising connections with development organizations, investors, and sustainability-focused enterprises.

Thanks to its sustainable model and strong community development strategy, KardiaNuts became the first cashew farm in Colombia to obtain both organic and fair trade certifications—unlocking access to international markets. The startup has cultivated over 460 hectares of cashew trees, produces around 85,000 seedlings annually, and is gradually restoring degraded ecosystems in Vichada. Additionally, KardiaNuts has established strategic partnerships with international organizations such as the Pakka Foundation, reNature, and Agrosavia to scale its operations and replicate its model. These achievements not only support environmental protection and emissions reduction but also promote inclusive, fair, and sustainable agricultural development for vulnerable communities.
