NanoNeem is a startup specializing in nanotechnology-based biological pesticides, promoting clean and sustainable agriculture. By utilizing neem (Indian lilac) and other medicinal herbs, NanoNeem develops eco-friendly pest control solutions that minimize the negative effects of chemical pesticides on human health and the environment. The project is led by Dr. Dương Nguyễn Hồng Nhung, a lecturer at the Faculty of Biotechnology, International University (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City). After successfully defending her PhD dissertation at the University of Oklahoma, she chose to return to Vietnam to contribute to the country’s agricultural sector.
The flagship product of NanoNeem is an herbal-based biological pesticide that leverages nanotechnology to improve pest control efficiency. This innovative formulation has been tested on various crops, including leafy greens and fruit trees (such as rambutan, avocado, and grapes), showing promising results in repelling and eliminating pests. By reducing reliance on synthetic chemicals, NanoNeem supports safer food production and environmental conservation.
The success of NanoNeem has been widely recognized. In 2021, the project won first prize at the Social Business Creation competition in Canada, surpassing 265 teams to claim the global championship. Additionally, NanoNeem secured first place in the Hack4Growth Innovation Competition, further proving its effectiveness and market potential. Notably, the startup signed a contract worth over $3 million, highlighting investor confidence in its safe and innovative plant protection solutions.
