Takazuri Pioneers Green Building with Climatile Recycled Roofing Tiles

Takazuri is a startup in the design and construction sector, founded in 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. With a mission to create smart and sustainable building products, Takazuri focuses on using recycled materials to develop environmentally friendly solutions tailored to local conditions.

The company’s flagship product is Climatile™, a multifunctional roofing and wall cladding solution made from 75% recycled polypropylene plastic. Climatile not only offers superior thermal insulation but also integrates rainwater harvesting capabilities and supports the installation of solar panels, enabling buildings to become more self-sufficient in terms of energy and water.

Climatile is designed to be modular, lightweight, and easy to install, requiring no specialized skills—making it suitable for both urban and rural areas. Its smart interlocking system allows for quick, cost-effective assembly while ensuring effective waterproofing performance.

Takazuri operates on a circular business model, closely collaborating with local partners such as the Kwale Recycling Centre (KRC) to collect and recycle plastic waste from coastal and urban areas. This partnership not only ensures a steady supply of raw materials but also creates job opportunities for women and youth in the community.

At the P4G Vietnam 2025 Summit, Takazuri had the opportunity to participate in the innovation exhibition area for sustainable development enterprises, supported by the National Startup Support Center (NSSC). This was a major opportunity for the startup to showcase its Climatile™ product to a broad international audience, including policymakers, green investment funds, and technology experts in the sustainable construction sector.

Takazuri exemplifies how innovation, combined with deep understanding of local needs, can deliver scalable and sustainable building solutions. The company is contributing to shaping the future of green architecture in Kenya and across the African continent.
