VietRAP is a Vietnamese startup operating in the field of sustainable herbal value chain development. Leveraging its strengths in the local herbal ecosystem and its commitment to natural forest conservation, VietRAP has implemented the ATrung Herbal Farm project in Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province, with the goal of diversifying herbal values and creating stable, long-term livelihoods for the local community. This project integrates the model of growing herbs under the forest canopy with ecological tourism, maximizing the use of natural resources and the unique culture of the Northwestern Highlands.
ATrung Herbal Farm is not only a place for cultivating valuable herbs like Panax ginseng, Angelica, and Polygonum multiflorum, but also a green tourism destination offering many unique experiences. Visitors can stay in nature, tour the seasonal herbal gardens, participate in workshops on tea, essential oils, and herbal soaps, receive health care through herbal therapies, and enjoy local cuisine. The model is designed to combine traditional values with modern consumer trends, while also providing job opportunities and increasing income for local people.
VietRAP develops the model in a circular economy approach, collaborating with ethnic minority communities to sustainably harvest natural herbs without harming the forest environment. Additionally, tourism activities help raise visitors’ awareness of the role of forests and herbs in life, creating resources for nature conservation. This model is highly regarded for its ability to be implemented in highland areas, with reasonable investment costs, clear social benefits, and potential for replication in areas with similar terrain.
At the P4G Vietnam Summit 2025, VietRAP participated in the exhibition area for innovative enterprises in sustainable development, with the support of the National Startup Support Center (NSSC). This provided a valuable opportunity for the startup to introduce the ATrung Herbal Farm model to the international community, connect with development organizations, investors, and experts in the herbal and eco-tourism fields. As a result, VietRAP not only affirmed the practicality and impact of its model in Vietnam but also expanded its potential for cross-border cooperation, seeking green investment resources and access to technologies for sustainable development.
VietRAP is a prime example of combining indigenous science, innovation, and community development. This startup is contributing to shaping a herbal economy model linked to nature conservation, suited to highland conditions, with the potential for strong impact not only in Vietnam but also in countries facing similar challenges in environmental conservation and livelihoods.
