WasteX is an agri-tech startup focused on on-site biomass waste processing through small-scale carbonization solutions. Aiming to help farmers maximize the value of agricultural residues such as rice straw, rice husks, and sugarcane bagasse, WasteX has developed a device that transforms these byproducts into biochar – a valuable product in regenerative agriculture and the voluntary carbon credit market.
What sets WasteX’s solution apart is its flexibility, ease of deployment, and suitability for small and medium-sized farms. The carbonization device, developed by the startup, is compact and optimized for operational cost-efficiency, durability, and automation. Farmers can install the system directly on-site to manage agricultural waste independently, reducing the need for open-field burning that contributes to air pollution.
A key strength of the WasteX system lies in its integrated technology: the device is equipped with sensors and monitoring software that accurately measure the amount of carbon removed from the atmosphere during biochar production. This data can be used to generate carbon credits, offering farmers access to the voluntary carbon market and unlocking new revenue streams through sustainable agricultural practices.
To date, WasteX has rolled out its model in India and Indonesia, receiving positive attention from agricultural and environmental organizations. By combining agricultural waste treatment with access to carbon markets, the startup not only enhances economic efficiency for farmers but also accelerates the transition toward green and circular agriculture.
At the P4G Vietnam Summit 2025, WasteX received support from the National Startup Support Center (NSSC) to showcase its biochar carbonization device in the startup exhibition zone. The company’s innovative solution attracted strong interest from international organizations and investors for its ability to process agricultural byproducts directly on farms, producing both biochar and carbon credits.
With strong potential for replication in developing countries with high agricultural residue volumes like Vietnam, WasteX stands out as a pioneering startup connecting environmental technology with traditional agriculture. It is a clear example of innovation creating dual value—reducing emissions while increasing income for farmers.
