The Yarashoo Agro Industry – CARE partnership aims to support smallholder farmers in Ethiopia in reducing post-harvest losses and increasing incomes through the development of dried fruit and vegetable value chains.
Establishing the Aifa Foods brand, Yarashoo Agro Industry purchases fresh produce from farmers, processes it, and distributes the products in both domestic and international markets. In addition to business operations, the project also organizes technical training programs, supports on-site processing, and creates jobs for local women and youth through collection and packaging stages.
In this model, CARE plays the role of a supporting partner in policy connectivity and capacity building for participating parties to reduce post-harvest losses and sell at higher prices due to added value. This contributes to promoting a favorable and sustainable business environment for the dried agricultural products industry in Ethiopia.
At the P4G Vietnam Summit 2025, Yarashoo Agro Industry presented its cooperation model with CARE at the exhibition space for green initiatives, with support from the National Startup Support Center (NSSC). The initiative received attention from international development organizations and investors due to its practical impact in supporting smallholder farmers in Ethiopia, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating jobs for women and youth.
