In an economy that increasingly demands innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, Vietnamese women have asserted their vital role – not only as a key workforce but also as driving forces behind family economic stability, community development, and sustainable societal progress.
In recent years, women-led entrepreneurship in Vietnam has seen remarkable advancements, particularly following the implementation of the Government’s Project for Supporting Women Start-ups (2017–2025) under Decision No. 939/QD-TTg. Coordinated by the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee, this initiative has delivered impressive results:
- Over 18.2 million women have been provided with entrepreneurship-related information and guidance, surpassing the target by 137% set for 2025.
- More than 78,992 women have been supported in launching startups, exceeding the planned target by 395%.
- Over 5,900 collaborative groups and cooperatives have been established under female leadership.
- Nearly 56,000 women-led enterprises received advisory support, achieving 57% of the planned goal by 2025.
Despite these notable achievements, women entrepreneurs continue to face significant challenges. Many struggle to access capital, lack essential business management skills, and have limited knowledge of marketing and technological integration. In rural areas, deep-seated social norms and family responsibilities further constrain women from fully engaging in entrepreneurial pursuits.
However, these challenges also present opportunities for strengthening women’s entrepreneurship. Key strategies include increasing awareness, expanding targeted training and capacity-building programs, fostering international collaboration, and mobilizing resources to enhance Project 939. By implementing these measures, Vietnam can create a more inclusive and supportive ecosystem – empowering women to innovate, thrive in business, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s socio-economic progress.
