✨ “FID 2025 – Where creativity is nurtured and sustainable food technology is advanced”

On the morning of June 14, 2025, the Food Innovation and Development 2025 (FID 2025) competition officially kicked off with a launch event held on a virtual platform (via: https://virtual-event.huit.edu.vn/), marking the promising return of one of Vietnam’s largest innovation playgrounds in the food sector.

FID 2025 is organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT), Vietnam Association of Food Science and Technology (VAFoST), the National Startup Support Center (NSSC), the Global Innovation & Technology Platform (GITP), and the innovation platform BambuUp (BBU). This is the second season of a nationwide competition focused on food product development, aimed at nurturing young talents, discovering new practical products for the market, and addressing research needs of enterprises in the food industry.

With the mission of bridging Education – Research – Business – Society, FID 2025 is expected to shape the future of Vietnam’s food technology sector in the context of globalization and digital transformation. This year’s competition expands in both scale and professional depth, attracting over 20 universities and colleges nationwide, alongside leading experts, food startup founders, investors, and major players in food production, processing, and distribution domestically and internationally.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Hong Anh, Party Committee Member and Vice President of HUIT, shared at the launch ceremony: “Through FID 2025, student teams will have the opportunity to work directly with and receive mentoring from top-tier experts, including professors, industry leaders, and representatives of local and international organizations. Students will not only enhance their professional knowledge but also develop essential entrepreneurial skills. Outstanding products will be considered for commercialization by partner enterprises and investors.”

She also emphasized HUIT’s commitment, as co-organizer and host of the Final Round, to providing the best possible facilities and support for the competition’s success.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Lam, President of VAFoST, affirmed the competition’s value, calling FID 2025 a significant event and an annual platform for students to demonstrate creativity and talent in food innovation.

Mr. Le Toan Thang, Deputy Director of NSSC, expressed confidence in the competition: “We believe this playground will give rise to many startup ideas applying AI, IoT, and Blockchain to the food industry. NSSC is ready to support students, universities, and partners to turn innovation into a breakthrough driving force for Vietnam’s food sector and hopefully elevate projects to the global stage.”

Mr. Raflles Chan, CEO of GITP, stated: “GITP believes in the power of cross-border cooperation and innovation to solve global challenges, especially sustainability and food security. Our involvement in this program reflects our commitment to nurturing talent, accelerating impactful solutions, and building strong bridges between ASEAN and global partners. We are excited to contribute our network, expertise, and support—and most importantly, to learn from all of you who are pushing the boundaries of food innovation.”

The organizing committee introduced the competition structure and timeline, with three main tracks reflecting strategic directions for the future of food:
– Health-Focus Innovation: Creating health-oriented food products to meet the nutritional needs of a new generation;
– Food Security & Social Impact: Addressing food security and promoting digital/green transformation in the food sector;
– Problem-Solving Innovation: Offering practical solutions to current industry challenges.

Track 2 integrates digital and green transformation as key criteria, encouraging interdisciplinary thinking and sustainable tech-based solutions to social and environmental issues. Notably, FID 2025 marks a major shift to a global scale—welcoming international students, experts, and organizations for the first time.

Following the launch event on June 14, 2025, teams will submit product/solution ideas via the official website (http://fid.huit.edu.vn) to compete in Round 1 – Creative Idea Pitch. The top 25 teams from each track will move on to product development in Round 2, guided by industry mentors and academic experts.

The 10 best-performing teams in Round 2 will enter the Final Round on December 13, 2025, held onsite at HUIT. The top 6 will also compete in the Future Entrepreneurs Showcase for the special prize “The Future Entrepreneur.”

Students participating in FID 2025 will gain direct mentoring from senior experts, professors, and international organizations. Through both open and intensive training series, teams will be equipped with both technical expertise and business acumen. Some teams may even partner with businesses to turn their ideas into market-ready, commercial products. Promising teams will also receive support for intellectual property (IP) registration.

FID 2025 is not only a platform for innovation but also a hub connecting the food-tech startup ecosystem with resources in investment, incubation, and commercialization—aligning with global trends and national priorities such as green innovation, digital transformation in food value chains, and fostering university-business R&D partnerships, in line with Resolution 57 on high-quality human resource development.
